About

Our Campus

Since 1964, Bishop Ireton High School has been entrusted with the privilege of helping to educate young people and shape their lives through strong academics and a shared spirit of service and community, all rooted in our Catholic faith and love of God.
Bishop Ireton has been a faith-filled academic fixture in Alexandria for the past sixty years. The original campus on Cambridge Road consisted of academic classrooms, a chapel, an athletic wing and field space, and a rectory for the managing order of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales.

In 1998, the school completed the addition of a state-of-the-art Auditorium Concert Hall, as well as a three story addition of classrooms and band practice rooms. The music addition, named for long time wind ensemble director Dr. Garwood Whaley, and the classrooms addition named for Bishop John Keating, supported the enrollment growth that stemmed from the change to a co-educational student body.

In 2020, the school completed its largest expansion, providing the next generation of students with an enlarged campus and cutting-edge STEM facilities. This expansion included a four-story, 40,000+ square foot Academic Center providing collegiate level science, robotics and engineering labs, a new dining hall with an outdoor courtyard and patio, a sprawling media learning center housing the library, study rooms, a broadcasting studio, a new computer and maker’s space lab, and collaborative learning spaces for content classes and special services. The exterior of the building addition included a vertical “bio-wall” garden, an open-air study arbor and a glass stairwell for significant daylighting.

The 2020 capital project also included the addition of a new auxiliary gymnasium and renovations to the existing fitness and weight rooms, supporting Bishop Ireton’s Athletic Program and its membership in one of the most competitive leagues in the country (Washington Catholic Athletic Conference).

Our location off of Duke Street provides us with quick access to the Metro system, the city bus system and use of athletic facilities throughout the city of Alexandria.

In the afternoon, the bus leaves the school promptly at 3:15pm from the upper parking lot and returns to the King Street station.

Students can ride the Alexandria DASH bus for free with the use of their student IDs.

Athletes are provided transportation to and from practice and games when they are located off campus.
